What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a quick screening number that relates your weight to your height. Itβs calculated as weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. The standard categories are: under 18.5 (underweight), 18.5β24.9 (healthy), 25β29.9 (overweight), and 30+ (obese).
BMIβs limitations
BMI doesnβt distinguish muscle from fat, so very muscular people can read as βoverweightβ despite low body fat. It also doesnβt account for where fat is stored. Use it as a rough guide alongside other measures like waist circumference β not a diagnosis.
